Konchog Yenlag was identified by the eighth Karmapa, Mikyo Dorje. The eighth Karmapa stated that the Karmapa reincarnations and the Shamarpa reincarnations are, in fact, of the same mind-stream, that they are inseparable. Konchog Yenlag was a scholar and a meditation master. During his life he wrote seven well-known texts on the practice of meditation. He also recognised and became the guru of the ninth Karmapa, Wangchuk Dorje.
