KAGYU GARLAND
Excerpts
are from The Blossoms of Devotion by Jamgon Lodro Thaye (published
by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche, New Delhi)
The
Ninth Situpa, Pema Nyinche Wangpo (1774 - 1853)
Guru
Rinpoche, an Indian master who was among the first to introduce
Buddhism to Tibet, stated that at a certain time in the future he
would manifest as an individual called Pema Nyinche Wangpo.
The tenth Shamarpa, Chodrub Gyamtso, and the seventh Pawo, Tsuglag
Gawa, recognized him as the reincarnation of Situ Chokyi Jungnay
and the Shamarpa installed and enthroned him. Pema Nyinche Wangpo
studied with many masters of his time. His principal gurus were
the thirteenth Karmapa, Dudul Dorje and the tenth Shamarpa, Chodrub
Gyamtso.
Situpa
created many retreat-centers where he taught extensively, thus contributing
toward the spreading of the Kagyu meditation practices. He was the
guru of the fourteenth Karmapa, Tegchog Dorje, and Jamgon Lodro
Thaye.
